5 day pouch "reset"

If you are in the WLS community and you asked around about the 5 day pouch test, you would get a lot of varied responses. Some will simply say "it's stupid". Some go on to say it's just another diet that lures you back into the "quick results" mentality.
Yet, others will say it's been a viable option for them to feel like they are starting things fresh, a "reset" if you will. For those who have perhaps strayed down the path of too much junk (whatever junk might be to them: carbs and sugar being the biggest culprits) some feel that it helps "break" the cycle they have fallen into, thus giving them a better sense of their tool, renewing the rules in their lives, and thus (probably ) losing some weight. Now, can all of this happen without the 5 day pouch test? Yes. For some, it's harder than for others. So, I am giving it a try this week. Today is my first day of the 5 Day Pouch Test.
Here is a brief outline of the test for those not familiar. 2 days of liquids (including low carb protein shakes) 1 day soft proteins (canned meat, eggs, soft cooked fish, cottage cheese, etc) 1 day of firm proteins (ground meats) and 1 day of dense proteins (chicken breast, etc). The claims are that it helps break the grazing cycles and the carb and sugar cravings. That is puts us back in contact with the tightness that our primarily protein diet provides our pouch, therefor, we are able to use our tool as we did back in the honeymoon stage. I am SO into this, so I am hoping it works out.
Starting weight: 223.6
So, here I am, about 1/2 way through day one, and I am seriously wanting to eat something, BUT, I have been doing well. So far I have had 2 shakes, and about 90 oz of other fluid already today. I am anticipating at least 2 more shakes (I hope I get a delivery of click tomorrow, because I am almost out!!) and a ton more water/crystal light. I'll probably be up all night pee-ing!
I woke up this morning with a terrible stomach ache. I am sure it had something to do with the pizza and cheesecake (yes, that's what I said) I ate last night. It solidified even more the idea that I needed to do this for myself. I don't want to diet, and that is one of the things that made me SO happy after surgery - I didn't feel like I was on a diet. It was really a way of life. I still feel that that "way" is mostly what I do, but since my weight loss has stalled, I feel that I have gotten into the "well, I'm not losing, I might as well eat..." mentality. So, if this test results in breaking my "stall", I am feeling more likely to stick more closely to my protein packed way of life.
So, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Tune in tomorrow for liquids - part deux!!

  1. I did the test when I was stalling..... despite the fact that a lot of people said that it's just another diet. I found it worked great! It kick started my weight loss again! Good luck on it Kelliann.... it's hard but worth it!
