Well, I am sick for the second time in about a month. Now, I come in contact with lots of little petrie dishes all the time, from 2 year olds to college and even beyond. I am sure I picked it up from one of those little beasts - but regardless of how it happened, here I am. As I sit here bemoaning my swollen gland, nose blowing existence, I have to wonder if the petrie dishes are perhaps not to blame, and if my total lack of vitamin taking and eating well is more the culprit.
Yes. I have to admit I have been really slacking on the vitamins, and this is REALLY bad for me. Because my body doesn't absorb what it needs from food (and it's certainly not going to get anything good from the kettle corn I have been obsessed with lately) I MUST maintain a good vitamin regime to keep my body functioning properly. This is only one of the "musts" I have been sorely lacking in. Not eating properly and not exercising round out the list.
I was thinking about last year when I went to visit my bro, sis in law and nephew in Seattle. This was about a month before my surgery, and I got SO sick. It seemed like everyone else escaped with a day of rest and the sniffles and I got a full blown, crying because I feel like ass kind of cold. I look back and wonder if my total lack of nutrition, and severe obesity contributed to the severity of my illness. I have to assume it's the same situation now. My lack of nutrients and eating well has made me a prime target for illness. Damn germs. Damn insubordinate me!
Anyone who knows me knows I am a planner... ok, you can stop laughing, perhaps a little more than a "planner". So in the spirit of my normal self, I will create a plan for the upcoming month. 1 Month, nothing more. At the end of the month I will take stock of things and see if the plan has helped straighten me out.
Things to accomplish in the next month: From today, 10/11/09 to 11/08/09
Taking my vitamins: 2 multi, 2 calcium citrate, and 1 prenatal
Drinking 64 oz of NON caffeinated liquid a day
Back to basics with food: Protein first, high fiber carbs only
NO excess sugar (I say no excess, because, for example, my favorite protein drink, Click, has a little bit of sugar in it. I am NOT going to give up my Click. I AM going to give up eating a bag of sour watermelon candy over the course of a day. This is going to be the hard one, as I have been "back on" sugar lately)
Exercising 3 times per week - starting with at least 30 minutes each, and moving up to at least 45 minutes each by the end of the month
So, that's it. I'll get on the scale tomorrow morning and I'll get on the scale 11/8, and we'll see what it says. Amazingly enough, this is not really about the scale, although I have gained a few lbs since my lowest weight of 215, it's more about how I feel and knowing the things I need to do to be healthy. Wow, seems like I've progressed a bit, huh? Go figure.

I am so glad to see this "progressive" thought pattern! You can do it Kel. I miss you, and I'm proud of all you're doing!
